Assistant Farmers is a program for almuni Eco-Interns, designed to enhance public speaking, leadership and group facilitation skills. Assistant Farmers are responsible for leading weekly workshops for the Ec0-Interns during our 8 week summer programming.
In the Spring of 2015, CFET launched our new Senior Farmers youth program. Through this program, CFET hopes to train a new generation of young urban gardening professional consultants. Senior Farmers are involved in the farm’s in depth planning process which includes creating a crop planting schedule, calculating projected harvests and farmers’ market sales, developing a marketing plan, and tracking on-farm data using spreadsheets. This experience provides our youth with the skill sets needed to be ready for day one of real world employment. Our Senior Farmers also participate in community outreach, give presentations to CFET’s retreat groups, and help facilitate volunteer groups on the farm.
On July 19, 2017, the Assistant and Senior Farmers will travel to North Carolina to attend the Rooted in Community Leadership Summit. There, the Youth Farmers will have the opportunity to connect with other young leaders like them, where they can acknowledge their shared experiences and struggles and build community to address and change the injustices in our food system.
Please donate today to support their journey there! Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated! Also, please share the page within your community so that we can fully fund this much deserved acknowledgement for their work! https://www.gofundme.com/send-cfets-youth-to-ric-2017
